Proton GEN-2 Now Available With A 1.3 Engine
Published: 10th March 2005
A new 1.3 litre version of the GEN-2 will complete the GEN-2 range in mid March 2005. Initially this new GLS model will be available with a manual transmission with the automatic version to follow later in the year.
The GEN-2 1.3 GLS has the same specification as the GEN-2 1.6 GLS so customers looking for a lower insurance rating and a smaller engine won’t have to sacrifice any features. Standard equipment includes:
- Air conditioning
- Alloy wheels
- Blaupunkt radio/ CD with 10-CD changer
- Twin airbags
- Remote central locking with alarm and immobiliser
- Electric front windows
- Reverse distance sensors
Prices for the GEN-2 1.3 GLS manual transmission will start from £8,795 with metallic paint an optional extra at £300. When it becomes available, the automatic model will be priced at £9,595. Both models are in insurance group 6a and tax band C.
As with other models in the GEN-2 range, Lotus has had a major influence on the ride and handling, design, and styling of the GEN-2, and Lotus and Proton engineers have collaborated closely on the engine. Lotus engineers involved in the testing of the GEN-2 1.3 commented that "the suspension is calm and fluid" and describe the car as "a rewarding, fun drive that inspires confidence".
Customers buying the GEN-2 1.3 GLS before 31 March 2005 will be able to take advantage of a £1 deposit offer available on all GEN-2 models.
