Proton GEN-2

How It Looks - Interior

In our opinion the interior styling is the GEN-2's achilles heel - it is not a nice place to be. There is far too much plastic and odd design touches that do not work.

The circular styling of the controls works relatively well but they were awkward to use on the move and too flimsy. The taupe and gold plastics and beige carpets were definitely not to our taste.

In Car Entertainment and Satellite Navigation

The GEN-2 range is fitted with as standard an integrated Blaupunkt RDS radio/CD Player, with steering wheel mounted audio controls. However, these controls were too small to be practical on the move. From GLS specification upwards, you get a boot mounted 10 disc auto-changer as standard.

Rivals
What We Liked
  • Easy to drive
  • The price
  • Well weighted steering
What We Disliked
  • Lack of ABS as standard across the range (standard on GSX models only)
  • Some build quality issues
  • Fiddly audio and ventilation controls
  • The hard steering wheel
What We'd Like To See
  • ABS as standard across the range
  • Side airbags as standard across the range
  • More attention to build quality
  • A more tactile steering wheel
