The Peugeot 607
Published: 21st September 2003
Driving pleasure has been enhanced both by improvements in acceleration and a reduction in interior noise levels.
For example, with fifth gear featuring a lower ratio, the speed per 1,000 rpm is now 22.47 mph versus 29.24 mph at 1,000 rpm, and acceleration from 50 to 75 mph is now possible in 11.5 s compared to 11.8 s for the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Acceleration is unchanged for the 1,000 m standing start covered in 32.7 seconds, and 0-62 mph in 11.5 seconds, although the maximum speed of 127 mph is now obtained in sixth gear.
The higher sixth gear ratio also improves driver comfort and fuel consumption. At a stable speed of 80 mph, the reduction in engine speed is 350 rpm, representing a gain of 0.45 litres/100 km.
The improvement in the combined cycle is 0.1litres/100 km, giving
an overall figure of 6.6 litres/100 km.
