The Peugeot 607
Published: 21st September 2003
Three years after its launch, the 607, the world’s first diesel car equipped with a particulate emission filter, has just exceeded 100,000 sales, making it Europe’s most widely sold saloon in the ‘H’ segment.
- New 6-speed manual gearbox for the 2.2-litre HDi
- Side airbags for the rear seats in addition to curtain airbags
- Hands-free telephone kit using "Bluetooth®" wireless technology
- Motorised opening and closing of the boot
- Electrochrome-plated door mirrors
- New trim options
Up until now, the 607 was only available with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 4-speed ‘Tiptronic’ automatic gearbox with sequential control. This summer, the 607 is further enhanced by a 6-speed gearbox on the 2.2-litre HDi version, and – throughout the 607 range – even more technological and comfort features.
A 6-Speed Gearbox For The 2.2-Litre Diesel HDi
ML6C gearbox
This version is now equipped with the new 6-speed ML6C manual gearbox, which benefits from the latest developments to provide precise gear selection and fast, smooth gear changes. For this purpose, triple synchros are used on the first two gears and double on third gear. Similarly, reverse gear is entirely synchronised.
The gear selection gate is the "candelabra" type, with the position of reverse gear adjacent to that of first gear. To prevent reverse gear from being accidentally engaged, the gear lever has a release mechanism.
The clutch is hydraulically controlled which ensures a smooth operation and is self adjusting.
