Students Prove To Be Responsible Behind The Wheel

39% of cars were aged between six and 10 years old, with 28% more than 10 years old. 33% were purchased from parents, family or a friend, 19% from a local garage, 18% from a manufacturer’s dealership, and 14% via the classified ads.

55% of students had arranged their own insurance, while 45% were named as an additional driver on their parents’ policy.

Needs must

While 4% thought their car was ‘more trouble than it’s worth’, over half (54%) stated that their car was essential to them getting around, and almost a quarter (23%) stated that they had a wider choice of college or university because they had a car for transport.

Driving is fun

75% of students found driving to be an enjoyable experience, while 4% disliked it.

Peugeot - The popular choice for students

Some 15% of respondents opted for models from the Peugeot range (compared with a UK market share of 8.2 % in 2002), with 5% opting for a 106, 3% a 205, 3% for the newer 206, and 4% a combination of 305, 306, 307, 309 or 405 models.
