Peugeot 407 Coupe 2.7 GT
The centre console is cleanly laid out in the GT and features a colour screen for the Sat-Nav, which is part of Peugeot’s RT3 system. Other components include a JBL Hi-Fi system, comprising of a CD player with MP3 compatibility as well as a hands-free, dual-band Bluetooth, GSM phone. Stored addresses and phone numbers can be accessed by voice commands as can the Satellite Navigation. The RT3 system is standard on the GT and available as an option on the other models costing £1,650.
My test car was the GT model but there are two other trims: the entry level, S and the SE and although they are not as highly specified as the GT, they are nonetheless very well equipped. For instance, all 407 Coupes feature automatic headlight activation, tyre-pressure sensors, automatic wipers, dual-zone climate control and rear parking aid amongst others. The SE and GT also have a front parking aid, which is handy for those who have spatial awareness difficulties. As I said, it is a long car and you can’t see the corners or the end of the bonnet from the driver’s seat.
Prices range from £21,900 for the 2.2-litre S version to £30,900 for the top of the range 2.7-litre, V6 GT and that is not too bad considering the equipment levels.
As well as the three trim levels, the coupe comes with a choice of three engines. Having said that, not all of them are available across the whole of the range - the S comes with a 2.2-litre petrol engine only and that power unit is not available in the GT. Instead, there is a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine in combination with either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. The diesel option is in the form of the 2.7-litre HDi. Choosing the middle, SE trim gives you a full choice of power units.
My car housed the 2.7 HDi engine or 2.7 V6 HDi FAP Auto, to give it its full title. FAP stands for Particle Emission Filter that serves to make this diesel engine cleaner and friendlier to the environment with CO2 emissions of 226g/km.
This particular power unit is turbo-charged and capable of propelling the car from 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and on to the top speed of 143mph, where legal. It also produces 205bhp at 4000rpm and 330Nm of torque at 1900rpm.
