The Peugeot 407 went on sale in the UK in June 2004 and is the successor to the much-loved Peugeot 406. With the introduction of the 407, Peugeot aim to return to dominance within the upper-medium segment of the new car market. With its bold, sporting design, Peugeot has given the new range a high-tech specification that provides character, dynamism and real-world driving pleasure in equal measure.
The 407 is based on PSA Peugeot Citroen’s platform three for middle and upper segment vehicles. The specification has however been up-rated significantly to meet Peugeot's distinctive requirements for road holding, comfort and safety. Its overall size places it in the middle of its segment.
The 407 is available in S, SE, X-LINE, SV, SE Luxury Pack, Zenith and Executive trim levels. Prices range from £15,255 for the entry level S model to £20,455 for the range topping Executive model. Whichever model you choose the Peugeot 407 offers exceptional value for money.
The Peugeot 407 is available with an impressive choice of six different engines which includes four petrol a 1.8 16v, 2.0 16v, 2.2 16v & 3.0 V6 and two diesel engines a 1.6 (HDi 110 & HDi 110 FAP) and 2.0 (HDi 136 & HDi 136 FAP). Transmissions include either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual gearbox, or an electronic 4-speed or 6-speed automatic 'Tiptronic' auto adaptive gearbox.
Peugeot launched the 407 with the television advertisement entitled '407 Toys' featuring a world where everyone drives a variety of wacky toy cars. The 407 appears in the midst of these bizarre life-size toys with the line 'The Peugeot 407 - Playtime is Over'.
We tested the 407 SE 2.2 to find out if the new 407 can live up to Peugeot's original marketing slogan 'the drive of your life'.
