dCi's Down
Published: 30th August 2003
No other diesel offers as many horses or as much pace for the money. This Nissan engineered 2.2-litre dCi motor is mated to a six-speed gearbox and will get to 62 mph in 9.2 seconds. It returns 47.9 mpg on the combined cycle and produces a CO2 mass emissions figure of 161 g/km meaning a BIK banding of 19% for the 2003/4 tax year. If that sounds a bit boring, its maximum torque figure of 304 Nm at just 2000 rpm should wake you up. Particularly if you’re behind a queue of lorries and have got some serious overtaking to do.
And it’s not like Nissan has stripped the Almera down to its metal undies to achieve this price. The Pulse is a well-dressed package. It’s got air conditioning, a six speaker CD radio, remote control central locking, and anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution. How about electric windows? It’s got those, too. And the option of five-doors for an extra £750.
Nissan has spiced up its new range of Pulses with a dash of visual
flavour in the shape of a rear roof spoiler, body-coloured side
mouldings, deeper side sill spoilers and front fog lamps. This Pulse
could even get yours racing.
