Top Technician 2005

The decision has been made and we can present to you the three, highest scoring finalists, competing for the title of Top Technician 2005. They will each go forward to the nail-biting Award Ceremony, which takes place in London next month. There can only be one winner.

Who will take the title and the £2,000 cash prize?

The live finals of Top Technician 2005, held at the Automotive Trade Show last week, saw twelve finalists compete in three challenges under the watchful eyes of ReMIT assessors Terence Smith and Melvyn Morgan and chairman of judges, Dave Garratt. Each finalist had already passed two theory tests with flying colours, so the emphasis was on practical assessment.

The challenges comprised comprehension, fault diagnosis and waveform interpretation using a Crypton oscilloscope and wet test rig from AG Block.

The judges worked to strict criteria to ensure that the marking process was consistent and fair. "The level of skill and knowledge exhibited by finalists was incredible and marks were very high across all twelve," says Dave Garratt. "There is just half a percent between the winner and the runners-up".

The three technicians in the running for the title are (in alphabetical order):

  • Clive Atthowe AMIMI, Clive Atthowe Tuning
  • Iain Kershaw MIMI, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles
  • John Tinham CAE AMIMI, John Tinham Motor Engineer

Who will win? Watch this space!
