Speeding Fines Decrease By 108% According to National Car Rental

Published: 17th March 2008

National Car Rental, the UK’s leading vehicle rental organisation, has revealed a staggering drop in speeding fines incurred by its customers during Q4 2007. National, which operates the UK’s largest rental fleet receives thousands of parking fines, congestion fines, speeding fines, bus lane fines and traffic offence fines every month, incurred by drivers renting its vehicles throughout the UK.

Analysis of year on year figures for speeding offences has seen a 108% decrease in fines being issued, representing the biggest year on year fall in 2007. In Q3 2007 the company saw a year on year drop of 26.6% in speeding fines which followed a similar year on year fall in Quarter 2 2007 when National reported a 29% decrease in speeding fines.

National has also begun to see a decrease in Congestion Charge fines, down 38% on Q3 2007, welcome news after a steady rise since the extension of the Congestion Zone in February 2007.

And these weren’t the only areas where the number of penalties fell. Bus lane fines dropped by 48% after a shocking increase of 102% in Q3 and Parking and Traffic Offence fines have decreased by 14% and 7% respectively.

David Alexander Operations Director, National Car Rental comments “Our Quarter 4 figures have revealed some positive results with speeding fines falling dramatically after consistent falls each quarter throughout the year. This will be welcome news to businesses concerned about driver behavior, particularly with Corporate Manslaughter legislation strengthening in April 2008.
