ATS Euromaster Urges All To Regularly Check Oil Levels

Published: 25th August 2005

ATS Euromaster has issued a stark warning that their annual call for all motorists to regularly check oil levels should not be ignored by new car owners!

As the UK’s leading tyre maintenance company, ATS Euromaster regularly urges drivers to take responsibility for the "wellbeing" of their cars and, specifically, check oil levels regularly.

But the company feels the warning is ignored by motorists who buy brand new cars during September and March. Fears have grown after latest feedback revealed an alarming increase in ‘oil run outs’, whereby engines seize through lack of oil.

ATS Euromaster believes the problem is escalating simply because motorists, especially those who drive modern cars with long intervals between servicing, disregard fundamental basic engine maintenance.

Roy Stokes, of ATS Euromaster, said: "Motorists, especially those who drive relatively new cars, forget a car needs oil without which, they simply seize up.

"A modern car may only need to be serviced every 25,000 miles, yet oil levels should be regularly checked, especially before long journeys. It doesn’t matter whether the car is new or not, they should always be regularly checked for oil levels.

"Company car drivers and those behind the wheel of a leased or contract hired vehicle tend to be of the opinion that it ‘isn’t their job’ to check their oil and yet a quick and simple examination could save hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds and many hours of inconvenience."

Joe Beckett, Maintenance Manager from ING Car Lease, supported ATS Euromaster’s warning and said: "We have witnessed a three-fold increase in the number of engines seizing as a result of oil run outs. Because of drivers’ negligence companies face the prospect of repair bills for new engines at a cost of thousands of pounds rather than the short change it needs to keep oil topped up."

ATS Euromaster offers oil-level examinations throughout its UK network as part of its free 10-point check which includes:

  • Engine Oil Level
  • Tyre Tread Depth Check
  • Tyre Condition
  • Tyre Pressure
  • Primary Brake Inspection
  • Battery
  • Exhaust
  • Shock Absorbers
  • Lights
  • Windscreen Wipers and Screenwash Level
