Britishness Outways Weak Dollar

LTI Vehicles, the Coventry based manufacturer of purpose built London Black Taxis, has started the new year with an order from the USA for their TXII vehicles. The deal is worth in excess of £2.5 million.

Matthew Cheyne, Sales & Marketing Director for LTI Vehicles said, "The fact that we have received this order when imports from the UK are more expensive due to the relatively weak US dollar, represents a major vote of confidence in the TXII and its ability to cope with the exacting driving conditions in the major cities of the US.

"This is one of an increasing number of orders we are receiving from around the world for TXIIs emphasising its position as an icon of Britain recognised globally."

LTI say the Americans love the British black taxi for its recognisibility, durability and iconic status. This latest order is from the Massachusetts-based London Taxis of North America (LTNA), an independent importer. The latest London taxis will be used in Chicago, Detroit, Las Vegas and San Francisco. Currently there are approximately 300 London Taxis in us in the USA.

The left hand drive vehicles, with automatic transmission vehicles and a tailored US specification, which includes air conditioning throughout, are now being built at LTI’s Coventry factory. They will be delivered during the first quarter of this year.
