Avis Doubles Rapid Return Network

Published: 16th August 2005

Avis has more than doubled the UK rental locations that are using its Rapid Return technology, which checks in a returned rental car within just 60 seconds. In fact 1 in 2 rentals across Europe are now being checked-in in this way in eight different languages.

Rapid Return has now been installed in the following airport locations, Aberdeen, Belfast International, Belfast City, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, Nottingham East Midlands, Glasgow, Leeds Bradford, Inverness, London City, Gatwick, Heathrow, Liverpool John Lennon, Luton, Manchester, Newcastle, Prestwick, Southampton and Stansted and all other major rental locations.

More than 25 UK locations have completed roll out of Rapid Return over the past six months. This includes all of Avis’s busiest locations in readiness for the summer period where its UK fleet grows to nearly 20,000 vehicles.

Both corporate and retail customers will benefit from this investment in Rapid Return as the technology radically improves the speed of car return, saving valuable time and hassle at the airport.

More importantly Rapid Return records the mileage, time of return and the car’s condition with the customer present with any potential damage recharges recorded on an electronic receipt which is handed to the driver to sign. This can be printed in eight separate languages and ensures that any recorded vehicle damage can be discussed on the spot with the driver before they leave the car behind.

"Since Rapid Return’s inception at the beginning of the year we have experienced more than a 50% reduction in post rental customer enquiries proving that this technology is really beneficial. Currently it is a very busy time for Avis and with nearly 20,000 vehicles on our fleet this efficiency improving technology is greatly appreciated by customers and our employees alike," explained Penny Stoolman, Avis Director of Sales and Marketing.

"We are working towards extending the coverage to over 160 locations in total across Europe and look forward to many more satisfied customers using this service." comments Penny Stoolman, Director of Sales and Marketing, Avis UK.

All rental customers will also see the benefits of Rapid Return abroad as the technology has also been rolled out to 100 more locations in readiness for the holiday season across mainland Europe.
