Show Me A Clean Set Of Wheels
Published: 25th March 2005
Nearly 1 in 2 new cars may sit pretty on a stylish set of alloy wheels, but they invariably only get a spot of much needed TLC once a year.
Yet, during that time, they’ve probably covered the equivalent of a Lands End to John O’Groats trek no fewer than seven times picking up a few million particles of brake dust and a healthy splattering of road grime in the process.
"Unfortunately, alloys may look the bees knees, but keeping them in top condition can become a real chore," explains Mike Bewsey of Comma, the car care people.
Chore or not, if you were considering selling your car, a clean set of alloys could improve the market value by up to £200 according to pricing experts.
Bewsey adds: "Compared to the plastic wheel trim cover, alloys are a magnet for brake dust. This eventually gets baked on by the heat from the brake discs, which leaves the traditional sponge and water treatment a futile exercise."
The biggest selling solution on the market remains Comma’s award winning Alloy Wheel Clean Kit, which at £6.99 contains all you need to bring back that showroom sparkle.
In order to tackle today’s intricate designs, each 500ml box comes complete with a pure bristle brush, reusable gloves and a specially formulated chemical spray which quickly eats into the tough, baked on grime.
