Be Taxiwise This Christmas

With the Christmas party season in full swing, the number of incidents involving bogus taxi drivers is set to increase.

Taxiwise, the national campaign initiative for taxi safety, is teaming up with a leading women’s magazine to encourage women to remain vigilant when it comes to taxi journeys this festive season.

Grazia the leading high street glossy magazine, is supporting the Taxiwise campaign and will be promoting the ‘be taxi wise’ message to all of its readers.

“We are delighted that Grazia has decided to support the ongoing work of Taxiwise,” comments Hazel Crawford-Upton, Taxiwise spokesperson.

“The announcement further enhances our commitment to passenger safety as Grazia is read by so many of our target audience. We want to urge party-goers to take extra care when returning home by taxi.  The safest way is to hail a traditional style black cab or to book a taxi in advance.”

Grazia editor, Jane Bruton believes the partnership will help women live safer, independent lives: “I’m sure we’ve all been tempted after a night out to jump into the first cab that pulls up outside a pub or nightclub, but it is simply not safe and you are potentially putting yourself at risk.

“This year we have followed a number of stories involving bogus taxi drivers which have had tragic results so we wanted to endorse the message of Taxiwise and encourage all women to think about the potential dangers when travelling at night.”

Taxiwise has attracted the support of a number of celebrities since its launch over four years ago.  Lisa Snowden, Gabby Logan and Tamara Beckwith have all felt strongly about the dangers that women can encounter after a night out on the town and offered their support to the Taxiwise campaign.

Taxiwise, which is working to encourage greater awareness of taxi safety with all of the UK’s local authorities, also has the support of a number of female MPs.
