Rally Radio At Wales Rally GB

Rally Radio is back and it’s bigger and better than ever before, reaching a worldwide audience of motorsport fans.

Wales Rally GB has joined forces with GlobeCast Radio to provide new levels of radio coverage for the World Rally Championship.

GlobeCast Radio is a full-time radio station themed towards cars and motorsport - and the Wales Rally GB team, headed by rally manager John Hindhaugh is one of the most experienced in the world.

It is the same team which ran Red Dragon Rally FM, a station so successful that it was entered for a prestigious Sony Radio Award.

"We have put together a tremendous team and programme schedule for listeners at home, at work and of course rally spectators on the event,’’ said John.

"For the first time ever Rally Radio can be heard in homes around the world as well as by spectators in South Wales.’’

Wales Rally GB coverage has already begun with the team reporting on the latest developments as the rally approaches and a dedicated Cardiff studio will be on air in the lead-up to the event and right through until the rally finishes.

Available on-line at walesrallygb.com, on Sky 907 and on 87.7FM in South Wales, Globecast will be using five dedicated transmitters in the region to ensure clear transmission from rally headquarters in Cardiff, to the major stages and in the Swansea service area.

Sky 907 can reach more than 11.5 million listeners in Europe and the internet link gives the station worldwide appeal.

"Working closely with the organisers Globecast will be setting new standards in rally coverage and we are already working with the key teams to ensure comprehensive coverage,’’ said John.

Programme plans for the rally build-up include all the news and action as the crews prepare for Wales Rally GB.

Globecast’s regular Wednesday evening live Autosport show will bring the latest information from crews as the rally start approaches and at shakedown Rally Radio will be on hand for the very latest information in the hours before the ceremonial start at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium.

And once the event gets underway Globecast will have a team reporting directly from the stage finishes together with experts in the service area talking to those making the news, from the championship leaders to the privateer teams.

Guests in the studio will be analysing all of the action while news, weather and traffic reports will ensure that spectators have a regular and reliable stream of information to ensure they enjoy the event.

"In addition to interviews with drivers, team personnel and special guests we will also be looking at what else South Wales has to offer visitors,’’ said John. "Special reports are being put together now showing the rich tourist heritage the region has to cover from coal mines through to historic castles and the very latest waterfront entertainment in Cardiff.’’

Andrew Coe, Chief Executive of IMS, the commercial arm of the Motor Sports Association (MSA) said that Globecast had assembled an impressive line-up to provide the best possible coverage of the rally for fans.

"We have already enjoyed unrivalled coverage in the build up to the event on GlobeCast which is extending the reach of the event to many more listeners than has ever been possible in the past."
