National wins major contract with MOD agency

National Car Rental has signed a major new contract to provide rental vehicles to the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL), an agency of the Ministry of Defence (MOD). The contract is part of National’s ongoing relationship with leading international service company, Serco Group, which works with DSTL, operating in a broad range of sectors including defence and aerospace. Under the new agreement National is delivering a fully integrated travel solution to DSTL, using the latest technology-driven management tools to provide it with new cost saving opportunities.

Kathleen Whittam, Head of National Accounts, comments, “This contract is testament to the quality of service National has provided to Serco since 2004. National’s IT capabilities combined with our nationwide coverage, industry leading fleet and proven service delivery were key factors in our selection as rental provider to DSTL. We look forward to working closely with Serco to develop a rental solution tailored specifically to DSTL’s needs.”

DSTL supplies impartial scientific and technical research and advice to the MOD and other government departments. Serco provides a range of services to DSTL and turned to National when it needed to source a daily rental partner that could be fully integrated into DSTL’s online travel management platform.  This will be achieved through the integration of Speedlink – National’s highly efficient desktop PC based reservations system which provides real time links to National’s own rental system.  This will allow DSTL to easily control their vehicle rental requirements.   Until the integration is complete, DSTL will use National’s online booking and rental management tool,, ensuring immediate service benefits.

“We needed a rental provider with a substantial network to ensure all DSTL sites had easy access to a wide range of vehicles,” explains Norman Gage, Service Support Centre Manager for Serco. “National’s UK network, plus its IT solutions providing vital management information, mean we can drive down costs without having to compromise on the quality of service we receive.”
