What Do You Use Yours For?

Renault Trafic

That's the question the Motorhome Information Service is asking, as their latest research reveals the vehicle as the leisure multi-tasker. From jet skiing to motorsport, from sabbatical tours to work/life balance, the motorhome seems to have become the answer.

Sales have reached an all time high of over 8,000 new vehicles in 2004, with records broken four years in a row.

More than a quarter of all sales are to people moving into motorhomes for the first time, and the used vehicle market is also attracting buyers at a rate of four for every new vehicle sold. MIS expect this trend to continue into 2005, a view supported by the Caravan Club. The Club, who have nearly 57,000 'motorhome families' in membership, say: "Based on a recent survey, our members will be spending £208million on motorhomes in 2005, split half and half on new and used vehicles."

MIS says: "We always knew there was very little you couldn't do in a motorhome and this research is confirming the motorhome as multi-tasker in a big way! People, young and old are pursuing their passion-jet skiing, motor racing, motorcycling, equestrian events - the list is endless. And, of course, motorhomes are definitely 'in the dog house', the 'no problem' answer to taking the pooch on holiday with you and well as transporting your champion hound around the Shows.

There's also a new race of nomads, the 'sabbatical seeker' wanting to explore Europe and the 'chiller' who wants to drop out and live in a motorhome full time. Using one to commute to Spain in winter is often reported and there are those who use them for work as well as rest and play. For everyone though, it's an almost 'permanent' weekend break since, with a motorhome, it's just drive and arrive as well as a super way of visiting friends and family as you take your room with you."

They are a real boon when a member of the family is disabled - you can go precisely where and when you like, without worrying about whether your destination has the right facilities because you have them on board as a real home-from-home. And for these users there are big VAT savings available.

"Motorhome users certainly get a lot out of life and their vehicles," says MIS. So they're asking, just exactly what do you use yours for?
