Sunny Spells Forecast With Avis UK And The Met Office

Avis UK has won a new contract with government agency, the Met Office, to supply its short term rentals over the next three years.

The contract will see Avis supplying the Exeter based agency with the equivalent of almost 6,000 rental days per annum.

The Met Office is taking advantage of the convenience of short-term rental and the flexibility it offers including the introduction of Microsites. These Microsites are pure HTML booking tools, which enable drivers to book all vehicles on-line in less than 90 seconds, in just three simple steps and with live car availability.

With the introduction of Microsites Avis will help execute the Met Office’s departmental policy on daily rental ensuring that cost control is enforced. The Microsites will be hosted and maintained by Avis and tailored to meet the Met Office’s own rental guidelines. At present the Met Office does not have a corporate policy on daily rental, although it does have departmental guidelines and protocols.

A corporate agreement which includes specific car hire groups that employees can or cannot rent, the kind of insurance available and the conditions applicable, is a must.

Avis and the Met Office share an environmental focus and currently the Met Office is striving to achieve its ISO 14001certificate. ISO 14001 is the international standard for Environmental Management Systems and displays that the Met Office is taking active steps to fulfil its environmental responsibilities. As part of this initiative the Met Office will be ensuring that 10% of its pool car fleet are LPG powered.

The Met Office is also interested in joining Avis’ Future Forests carbon neutral scheme. By joining this scheme businesses are able to quantify their global warming contribution through the amount of carbon dioxide they produce. Trees are planted to offset the carbon emissions from each car rented and Avis customers can choose to make their own rentals carbon neutral.

Mike Lay, Property and Contracts Finance Manager at the Met Office comments: “Whilst we have worked with Avis in the past, this new contract was re-awarded to Avis as the result of an e-Auction. Avis was able to offer us cost effective nationwide rental solutions.”

Katrina Hurst, Corporate Sales Manager, Avis UK says “We are of course very happy to be given the opportunity to work with the Met Office again and look forward to another successful spell in this continued relationship.”
