Wendy Sprules from Surrey has been selected from thousands of women across the UK to take part in the Formula Woman elimination camp at the end of June, which aims to find the best 16 female drivers in the UK.

Wendy will be battling it out against 99 other females at an undisclosed location for one of 16 places in the all girl line up to compete in the prestigious Formula Woman Championship this summer.

To get to this stage Wendy has taken part in a grueling assessment process comprising of on track driving, karting, fitness, a written test and an interview.

Formula Woman is a unique concept designed to attract and assist more women to enter the previously male-dominated arena of motor sport and is the only female motor racing Championship in the country. Over the past 3 years there have been over 15,000 entrants to the Formula Woman competition and television programmes on ITV 1, Channel 4 and Sky Motors TV.

In 2007 Formula Woman will be the only Championship in the UK to run on E85, which is hybrid bio-ethanol and is far greener than regular fuel. Formula Woman are also making efforts to become greener in everything that they do and to highlight the importance of environmentally friendly motor sport.

The top three drivers from the elimination camp will obtain a free season in the Novice Championship and the other 13 will be required to find sponsorship.

Wendy said ‘If I do not make it in to one of the top 3 free drives I will be looking for far sighted sponsors to support me. I am confident, presentable and intelligent and feel I would be an ideal ambassador for potential sponsors, whether they are local or national. My recent testing times have proved to be very competitive putting me in a strong position to make the UK team’

The Formula Woman Novice Championship will run over 8 races throughout the summer of 2007, at circuits throughout the UK including Brands Hatch, Snetterton and home of the British Grand prix - Silverstone. Wendy said ‘if I get through to the final 16 I will be racing a 1.6 K series, Rover engined Caterham 7 which is a fantastic track car.  It would be my dream come true’
