Personalised Registration 888 Auctioned For £51,035

A three day auction by DVLA Personalised Registrations started off with a strong start, with the registration 888 selling for £51,035, bought by an anonymous businessman from the North East of England.

Whilst demand was expected to be strong, it wasn't expected that the price would go above £50,000, what's more, only three bidders fought for registration!

Damian Lawson, DVLA Personalised Registrations' Marketing Manager, said: "Eight is viewed as a lucky number in some communities, and today it certainly proved lucky for us. We were quite stunned when the hammer finally came down."

Over the duration of the three day personalised registrations auction, 1500 registrations will be auctioned by the DVLA, currently underway at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire. All bidders are being given free access to the museum.

The star registration "15 O" has a reserve of £10,000, however, prices do start from £250 for those with a smaller budget. Other registrations on offer include BEL 41R (reserve £400), CEN 50R (£400), FOR 1T (£900), F4 CTS (£900), G111 NNY (£900), MCL 12C (£900), 1 NFU (£3,200), 15 O (£10,000), 1000 OO (£5,000), 7 OOO (£4,000), PRO 80X (£400), RAJ 1F (£900), 11 SAD (£1,900), TEX 80Y (£400), UTD 80Y (£450), WA11 ACE (£2,000), YES 80B (£400).
