Cobra Awarded in The 2011 Fleet Technology Awards

Cobra has been awarded Highly Commended in the Best Telematics System category for its driver based insurance telematics technology in the 2011 Fleet Technology Awards, or Techies.

The Techies recognise companies and suppliers which stand out for making fleet operation cheaper, green, safety and more efficient. Cobra's telematics solution, which assists fleets with managing driver behaviour, fuel consumption, duty of care obligations and reducing costs impressed the judges.

Via a small "black box", Cobra's driver based insurance telematics technology can be used with HGVs, vans and cars and measures key outputs from the vehicle's journey in real time, covering distances, mileage, average speed, top speed, vehicle location, journey type and driving dynamics including acceleration and deceleration.

"Cobra's innovative approach to the vehicle insurance market, an area not renowned for its innovation, impressed the BusinessCar Techie judges enough for it to warrant a Highly Commended award," says Paul Barker, Editor, BusinessCar. "The technology is designed to help responsible fleets trim their insurance bills and better manage their vehicles, both vital areas of importance in the current climate."

Three consumer drive based insurance packages are available from Cobra including:

  • Pay How You Drive – the better your driving the lower your premiums
  • Pay As You Drive – based on the time, distance and location of journeys covered by the driver
  • Pay Per Use – premiums are based on a driver’s mileage

"This year we are really directing our telematics solutions towards the fleet industry, recognising the benefits our technology can give to fleet managers to reduce costs of insurance, and improve driver behaviour in addition to proactively encouraging training and best practice techniques," says Andrew Smith, Managing Director, Cobra UK. "Receiving this accolade from BusinessCar has come at an opportune time for us and we are delighted to be recognised for our innovation in the fleet arena."
