Neil Cunningham Joins Morgan Works Race Team
Published: 27th May 2003
The Morgan Works Team has bounced back from the shock news in March that its entry for the 2003 Le Mans race was unsuccessful, and Cunningham will lead a new campaign focused initially on FIA GT races at Donington and Spa. If sufficient sponsorship support comes forward, the team is also looking forward to high profile outings to Japan, Australia and the USA as the team continues to build its case for a Le Mans entry in 2004.
The Works seat comes after a highly successful start to the British GT Championship in the Morgan Aero 8 Cup Class car with the works-assisted private team Richard Thorne Motorsport. Neil has finished on the podium in 3 out of the first 4 rounds, including a stunning class win at Knockhill and best lap time.
Commenting, he said: "I have always wanted a works drive, and to be working with a name like Morgan is a dream come true. The Aero 8 is a stunning car to drive, and I’m really looking forward to helping the team to get the most out of it. The Morgan Works team has already taken some heavy knocks, but they’ve shown they’re made of pretty tough stuff. I think this is going to be a hell of a ride."
Cunningham will be testing the new Morgan Aero 8 FIA GT car during
June in preparation for its first outing at Donington on June 28/29.
