Ahlers And Shrimpton Complete Morgan Bathurst Line Up
Published: 18th November 2003
Keith Ahlers, whose own Cup Class Morgan Aero 8 recently registered a highly creditable third place overall in the 2003 British GT Cup Championship and who is widely acknowledged as the driver to beat in Morgan club racing, will join his erstwhile British GT rival Cunningham in the works-supported car entered by Sharpe Motorsport.
Ahlers is accompanied by Tom Shrimpton, already a veteran of a high-profile British GT season despite his tender age – he will celebrate his 18th birthday just a few days before starting the long journey to Bathurst. During a season which included drives with Marcos and Porsche, he scored several podium finishes and made history by becoming the youngest ever driver to win a Cup Class race outright at Spa.
David Dowse, spokesperson for the Morgan Works Race Team comments:
"This is a fantastic driver line up that delivers all the right ingredients for a 24-hour race: experience, skill, youth, energy, enthusiasm and sheer determination. The reaction from Morgan supporters everywhere is bound to be enormous and I think all four drivers are in for an experience of a lifetime.
"For such a young driver, Tom Shrimpton shows remarkable focus and maturity. I’m sure he’ll gain tremendously from working with experienced hands like Keith and Neil, and the team will gain a lot from his youth and enthusiasm."
