BRC Entry Confirmed For Gwyndaf Evans
Published: 17th April 2003
During the winter months the MG ZR has seen significant amounts of development including modifications to the gearbox, exhaust system, steering, front and rear suspension, which also includes improved geometry.
In a new initiative, Creative Media Communications (CMC) has sponsored the MG Sport & Racing BRC entry. CMC is a media-based company specialising in developing marketing opportunities in the motorsport arena. Of late they have been responsible for staging the Pirelli British Rally Championship Live; and organising a programme of autotests, rallies and classic car events as part of the Motorsport in the Midlands partnership.
Managing director, Peter Young said: "With MG and Gwyndaf we have a great combination to compete in Britain's premier rally championship. During the coming year we intend to extend that partnership further to include a number of supportive organisations and companies who wish to add their weight to our programme."
Gwyndaf will be partnered with co-driver Howard Davies with whom he has competed successfully on many occasions. On his return to the BRC Gwyndaf said: "I'm very happy to be back and fully appreciate the efforts of CMC and MG to support me in the British Rally Championship. We competed in a few rounds last year and had some fantastic events including some class wins. It will be tough at the opening round as the field is so strong but I can't wait to get back into the driving seat."
Following on from his class win in the Rallye Sunseeker, F1 panelist Tony Jardine will be competing in his Group N MG ZR with co-driver Kevin Eason (The Times). Tony said: "Kevin joined me for four rallies in 2001, all of them successful. In fact we won our class together on the ultra-fast Jim Clark Rally. He is incredibly composed even at high speeds in the car - I've never seen him flustered. I think he keeps his head down in the maps all the time, and to be frank, that's probably the best thing to do in Killer Kielder, the graveyard of so many cars in the past. Let's hope our MG ZR doesn't become another statistic of the forest."
Upon the announcement of Gwyndaf's return to Britain's top
rally championship Kim Johnson, director, MG Sport & Racing
said: "I'm delighted to be able to confirm our rally
activities for 2003 with the valued support of CMC. The skills
and experience of Gwyndaf and the dynamics of the MG ZR provide
a formidable combination. Last year Gwyndaf competed in selective
rounds of the BRC and the car was starting to show real potential
towards the season end. The team at MG Sport & Racing
has continued to develop the car over the winter months to
what we believe to be a real contender. I wish Gwyndaf and
Tony a successful outing in the opening round on Tyneside."
