Mercedes-Benz SLK Class

Build Quality

One word sums up the build quality of the new Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class - Superb!

The craftsmanship & quality of materials is very high and absolutely in keeping with a car of this class. The SLK-Class will prove durable and dependable clocking up high miles without any complaints.

The roof mechanism, is well engineered and has been thoroughly tested in the previous SLK model since 1996, so should prove durable.

The SLK benefits from a three year/unlimited mileage Mercedes-Benz warranty. Plus you receive a Mercedes-Benz care package comprising of a breakdown/mobility service, entitled MobiloLife for up to 30 years, subject to regular servicing via an authorised dealer.

Value For Money

At £34,930 the SLK 350 is competitively priced within the mid-sized premium roadster sector which includes the Audi TT Roadster, BMW Z4 and Porsche Boxster. The entry level 200 KOMPRESSOR is excellent value for money at £28,045 and features an excellent level of standard equipment.

However, when you start choosing from the extensive options list you may have to be careful depending on your budget. Our test car was equipped with a staggering £14,385 worth of options which certainly enhanced the overall user experience. However, when you come to sell your SLK we doubt that you would see a great return on all the extras but your car is going to be far more desirable.

In our opinion certain options such as rain sensitive wipers, remote roof closure, folding mirrors and parameter steering should be standard on a car of this price.

Depreciation is the biggest cost of running a new car and is often overlooked. The previous SLK model commanded high resale values and there is no reason why the new model which is a far more desirable car shouldn’t continue this trend.

Overall Opinion

The Mercedes-Benz SLK is the only car in its class to have a folding hard-top which puts companies like Audi, BMW and Porsche, who are still using soft tops to shame.

The SLK 350's performance and handling is superb, the ride is composed and it feels reassuringly stable at speed.

With the roof up road and wind noise is isolated and you would be forgiven for thinking that you were driving a refined coupe. However, to truly enjoy the SLK simply lower the superbly engineered roof, switch off the sound system and enjoy the addictive engine and exhaust notes which make the hair on the back of your neck stand up as you experience the elements.

With the new SLK-Class Mercedes-Benz have created an exceptional roadster which certainly exceeded our expectations.
