Amir Khan Lands A New Silver Star

Mercedes Vito Traveliner

Teenage boxing sensation Amir Khan has one word to describe his new Mercedes Vito Traveliner – knockout!

The 17-year-old from Bolton hit headlines across the world when he became one of Team GB’s outstanding successes at last summer’s Athens Olympics. Since then his life has been transformed as requests for appearances at functions and events, sporting awards and approaches from professional boxing’s biggest promoters have flooded in.

Now his local Mercedes Benz dealership, Ciceley Commercials, has come up with the perfect solution to transport not only Amir but also his support team of trainers, manager, father Shajaad Khan and others to competitions, training sessions and personal appearances in style and comfort.

Since Amir and his team took delivery of their stunning eight-seater Mercedes Vito Traveliner minibus – in silver, to match the colour of his Olympic medal – it has already been putting in some serious roadwork.

"As well as my training programme I can’t lose sight of the need to keep up my education," he says. "And like most 17-year-olds, taking and passing my driving test is also a priority!

"But I try to accept as many of the invitations as I can – I’ve visited schools and boxing clubs all over the country, and have been working to support the London 2012 Olympic bid."

He was taking part today {Mon 18 Oct} in an open-topped bus parade around London and meeting the Queen, along with the other Team GB Olympic medal winners, then attending the Boxing Writer’s Club annual dinner at the Savoy Hotel, where he was due to become the first amateur to be awarded the coveted Young Boxer of the Year title.

Now he is looking forward to his first big competition since the Olympics – an amateur tournament between Great Britain and the USA, held over two legs in London and Liverpool.

"The Vito is the ideal vehicle for me," Amir continues. "It has enough seats for all the people I need to have around me, as well as extras like a table, a fridge and a DVD player and screen. It’s superbly comfortable and relaxing to travel in and I know that with Mercedes Benz engineering it won’t let me down.

"It’s smart and stylish, compact and reliable, and it packs a knockout punch – just like me, in fact!"
