This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed will be a real treat for fans of Mercedes Benz racing cars, as the company shows an awe-inspiring line-up of its track stars.
Behind the wheel of these incredible motors are some of Mercedes Benz's most famous drivers. Jochen Mass, Sir Stirling Moss and John Surtees will all pilot a selection of Silver Arrows dating back nearly half a century.
Even older than the Silver Arrows is a 1906 Mercedes 120 hp Grand Prix car, which heads a line-up running through the legendary SLR racers of the 1950s, to a championship-winning Group C supercar from 1990.
The three-pointed star will shine on the bonnets of the world's most exotic collection of racers as they take to the track in spectacular style. The celebrated W 196 R "Streamliner" returns in dramatic fashion to the UK after an absence of some 49 years, and a six-year restoration.
2003 is also set to become the year of the SLR. With the new Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren due to make its world debut at September's Frankfurt motor show, Goodwood hosts a collection of two of the most famous cars ever to bear these three evocative letters, showing the rich heritage behind the new super sports car.Published 11 July 2003
