Silver Arrows On Target For A Great Show At Goodwood 2003
Published: 11th July 2003
Behind the wheel of these incredible motors are some of Mercedes-Benz's most famous drivers. Jochen Mass, Sir Stirling Moss and John Surtees will all pilot a selection of Silver Arrows dating back nearly half a century.
Even older than the Silver Arrows is a 1906 Mercedes 120 hp Grand Prix car, which heads a line-up running through the legendary SLR racers of the 1950s, to a championship-winning Group C supercar from 1990.
The three-pointed star will shine on the bonnets of the world's most exotic collection of racers as they take to the track in spectacular style. The celebrated W 196 R "Streamliner" returns in dramatic fashion to the UK after an absence of some 49 years, and a six-year restoration.
2003 is also set to become the year of the SLR. With the new Mercedes-Benz
SLR McLaren due to make its world debut at September's Frankfurt
motor show, Goodwood hosts a collection of two of the most famous
cars ever to bear these three evocative letters, showing the rich
heritage behind the new super sports car.
