DaimlerChrysler UK Completes Plans To Save Brooklands Site

The proposed flood compensation activity has been agreed with the Environment Agency, and this will help prevent the significant damage caused to homes and the museum by the River Wey bursting its banks.

Local people and visitors can look forward to using the country park for activities ranging from walking, cycling, sports and picnics while the whole site will be tidied and landscaped. Unsightly existing uses and activities such as fly-tipping will be removed. Existing land users such as the children’s nursery and motorcycle training school will remain on the site, and will benefit from the free bus service.

The HTC building itself will be sited close to The Brooklands Museum and within the historic motor racing circuit. It will create a valuable educational resource for local schools and will provide visitors and customers with an insight into the significant role Mercedes-Benz has played in the technological development of motor vehicles – from the first Blitzen-Benz racing at Brooklands in the 1900s to the present day range of cars.

A quality hotel is also included to enhance the attraction of the visitor experience and to help provide for the needs of long distance visitors to the site.

Without this long-term solution the deterioration of the site, and the on-going problem of unauthorised use, will continue."
