DaimlerChrysler UK will be presenting the widest range of vehicles yet at this year’s commercial vehicle show in Birmingham from 18-20 March. With their Mercedes Benz and Mitsubishi Canter brands, they will be exhibiting the following vehicles.
Mercedes Benz Stand - Trucks
The show will be the UK debut for the New Actros artic and drawbar truck that will become available in the autumn. Two tractor units will be displayed, a 4x2 1858LS with executive specification including Megaspace flat floor cab, and a 6x2 New Actros 2546LS with the standard long distance cab. The current Actros model is enjoying its best ever sales in the UK with 1,630 tractors registered in 2002.
The Axor has established itself as an economical and reliable fleet truck since its debut at last year’s CV show. A 6x2 2543LS tractor will be on show with standard sleeper cab and the nine speed gearbox. On sale from April last year, the Axor achieved nearly 700 tractor registrations which were all incremental business and not at the expense of Actros.
A new variant of the successful Atego six wheel tipper and mixer chassis makes its debut with a new 330hp straight-six engine and 12-speed gearbox. The 6x4 2633K will be fitted with a Rouse tipper body and Edbro front-end tipping gear. An Atego 815 7.5 tonne chassis will be fitted with a JC Payne dry freight box body and a Ratcliff alloy tail lift.
The new facelifted Sprinter will be making its UK debut at the show with two new models. It will be the first showing of the 314 van with LPG factory conversion, with 3 years unlimited mileage factory warranty. Also new will be the Sprinter+3, which follows the successful dual-use concept of the Vito+3. Behind the front row of seats is an additional row of 3 further seats, glazed side load door and panel, bulkhead behind the extra seats with the remaining cargo space of around 7.5 cubic metres remaining at the rear. A Sprinter 308CDI "One-Stop-Shop" Tipper will also be on show with a steel floor / alloy-sided tipping body from TVL.
Two Vitos will be on show, a 102bhp 110CDI+3 with three additional seats and two glazed sliding side-load doors, and a 122bhp, 112CDI in minibus ‘Traveliner’ form.
After a strong first year with DaimlerChrysler when 577 chassis were registered in 2002, the Canter will be showing three vehicles at different gross weights.
A 7.5 tonne Canter 75 with the 143bhp four cylinder engine and 6 speed gearbox will be equipped with a GRP Fridge body on a 3350mm wheelbase chassis. A 6.3 tonne Canter 63, also with the 143bhp four-cylinder engine and 6-speed gearbox, will have a crew cab and steel tipper body with a mesh cage from Tipmaster. To complete the line-up, a 3.5 tonne Canter 35 with a 125bhp engine and 5-speed gearbox will be on show with an Ingimex dropside body.
