Records Tumble As Mercedes Benz Customers Enjoy A Bumper 2002 | Part Two

Diesel-powered Mercedes recorded a new high as well, with 30,379 CDI-engined models being registered — some 37.6 per cent of total units. All these results mean that the UK is Mercedes Benz’s biggest export market in the world. These figures add to the excellent global results recorded by the company, with over 1.1 million new cars sold in 2002.

Dermot Kelly, Director Mercedes Benz Passenger Cars and smart commented on the results: "We’re obviously delighted that our remarkable success has continued for the ninth consecutive year, and is spread across our whole model range. But the real beneficiaries are our new and continuing customers, who have enjoyed the benefits of Mercedes Benz motoring in record numbers.

"Our reputation for quality, reliability and longevity means that the costs of owning and running one of our cars is comparable to other, volume brands that lack the special feeling that comes with Mercedes Benz ownership. Our fuel-efficient new CDI and TWINPULSE engines, variable service intervals, leading residual values and mobilo-life 30-year warranty packages all mean that our customers can save money by choosing a Mercedes Benz."

Dermot continued: "2002 was a year of change for Mercedes Benz, with a host of new models being introduced and the extensive changes to our retail network really taking shape. Thanks to the continued hard work of the dedicated Mercedes Benz teams across the country, we’re now in an extremely competitive position to deliver excellent service levels to match our fine cars."

With a record-breaking 2002 behind it, Mercedes Benz is looking forward to an equally busy 2003. With a number of recently-introduced models now available in completed ranges and new cars – the E-Class Estate, CLK-Class Cabriolet and exotic Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren – arriving later this year, the next 12 months look set to be even better for Mercedes Benz customers.
