Winter weather brings many challenges, not least for drivers who are faced with unpredictable road conditions and risks. The cold, ice and snow are some of the biggest issues for many and it is therefore important to be prepared for what lies ahead on the roads.
The Mercedes Benz Driving Academy, at Mercedes Benz World, has launched a user-friendly course designed to prepare drivers of all capabilities for winter conditions. This is part of an initiative to increase road safety by equipping drivers with the skills that are needed in order to consider and react to the dangers on the road. Such preparations could also save money on repair bills and insurance premiums should anything happen that could have been avoided.
With the purpose-built handling circuits and driving facilities at Mercedes Benz World, the Mercedes Benz Driving Academy can offer drivers the ability to prepare for ice and snow. From cornering to pulling out onto an icy road with the hypothetical risks of oncoming traffic, the low friction, wet grip surfaces allow drivers to develop skills by simulating driving in icy conditions.
Dermot Kelly, Managing Director Mercedes Benz Passenger Cars, commented: "Mercedes Benz leads the way in safety technology and now with our winter driving course we take this a step further. The advanced low grip surfaces of the wet skid circle and straight mean that any driver can experience - in safety - how a car reacts on the limit in icy conditions and most importantly how to deal with a problem should one arise out on the road. To experience a car spinning through 360 degrees is a daunting prospect, so to do so on the safe and controlled purpose-built circuits at Mercedes Benz World offers an invaluable lesson for everyone, whatever their level of experience."
The winter driving course is tailored to each individual driver. This means the course can develop specific skills to help drivers overcome fears from previous experiences on the roads, or cover a broad range of skills for drivers to be prepared in the future.
The course is held at Mercedes Benz World, located in Weybridge, Surrey. The one hour duration includes both discussion and driving elements on a one-to-one basis with a professional driver in one of the latest Mercedes Benz models.
The Winter Driving Course is available for £100.Published 10 February 2010
