A new naturally aspirated 5.5 litre V8, producing 412 hp

This is the most powerful Mercedes Benz SLK to date – the new SLK 55 AMG is powered by a new naturally aspirated 5.5 litre V8, producing 412 hp.

The new V8 engine produces 421 hp at 6,800 rpm and delivers 540 Nm worth of torque at 4,500 rpm which is enough to propel  the SLK 55 AMG from 0 – 62 mph in 4.6 seconds and then to a limited top speed of 155 mph. The rear wheel drive car mated to a seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission.

Mercedes have been able to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by some 30% by shutting down four cylinders when under light throttle responses; it is also fitted with stop/start which switches off the petrol engine when stationary. Mercedes quote a combined fuel figure of 33.6 mpg and CO2 emissions of 195g/km.

The Mercedes Benz SLK 55 AMG is now available to order with a list price of £54,950 on the road. You can add packages unique to the SLK 55 AMG such as the Performance Package which upgrades the suspension and brakes and adds a rear differential lock (£4,105) and the AMG Driver’s Package, which raises the limited top speed and includes attendance at an AMG ‘Power and Passion’ driver event (£2,755).
