The new SLK-Class Roadster, which has proved incredibly popular since its summer 2004 launch, was also heralded as What Car?’s Roadster of the Year.

In 200 KOMPRESSOR form, using the same refined DIRECT CONTROL chassis and four-cylinder TWINPULSE engine as found in the C-Class, the SLK-Class showed its credentials as an excellent all-weather roadster.

With a metal roof that folds away in just 21 seconds, SLK drivers can take advantage of open topped motoring on cold, crisp winter days as easily as during a glorious summer.

"With the side windows up and the rear wind blocker in place it’s cosier than ever, especially with the brilliant Airscarf option blasting warm air at neck height," explained David Motton.

The success of the SLK-Class was heralded by Mercedes Car Group Managing Director Dermot Kelly, who collected the awards on behalf of the company: "Both our winners offer customers excellent levels of equipment and enjoyment, at affordable prices. DIRECT CONTROL means an enjoyable, dynamic driving experience whatever the road conditions.

"Adding to this are strong residual values that prove that throughout its life, the costs of owning a Mercedes Benz are surprisingly low. The complimentary engine or trim upgrade offers on C-Class makes this remarkable range an extremely tempting proposition."

Like other cars in the Mercedes Benz range, C-Class and SLK-Class are sold through authorised UK retailers with a three-year unlimited mileage warranty, and the industry-leading 30-year anti-corrosion and breakdown cover, MobiloLife.

ASSYST variable service intervals keep running costs low while an armoury of standard safety features including ABS anti-lock-brakes with BAS Brake Assist; ESP Electronic Stability Program with ASR traction control; seat belts with pre-tensioners and belt force limiters and advanced airbag technology keep occupants well-protected should an accident occur. Indeed, C-Class scores five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests.

With two prestigious What Car? Awards to start 2005 alongside a wealth of extra value offers, Mercedes Benz customers can look forward to years of enjoyable, cost-effective luxury motoring.
