Mercedes Benz E-Class Review

The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class saloon was launched in the UK in August 2002. Developed at a cost of some £1.6 billion over 4 years the new E-Class sets the precedent for premium saloon cars. The new E-Class offers the highest level of standard equipment and incorporates the latest technology.

The E-Class is available with an impressive range of eight different engines which includes five petrol engines ranging from the 1.8 litre, 4-cylinder to the 5.5 litre supercharged V8 and three refined and economical diesel engines. Transmissions range from 6-speed manual, 5-speed automatic to 7G-Tronic automatic.

Available in Classic, Elegance and Avantgarde trim levels, with the high performance AMG model completing the impressive line up.

With tough competition in the form of Audi's new A6 and BMW's new 5 Series we tested the E 270 CDI to find out if Mercedes-Benz's new luxury saloon is still class leader material.
