Mazda6 Triumphs Again With Diesel Car Award

Judges of the awards were hugely complimentary about the Mazda6 diesel, which triumphed over rivals such as Renault Laguna, Toyota Avensis and Vauxhall Vectra.
Jeremy Taylor, editor of Diesel Car, commented: "The Mazda6 exudes style from every angle and driving experience with each turn of the wheel. Coupled with the great handling and generous interior it offers, the Mazda6 diesel is a worthy winner of our ‘Best Family Diesel Car’ award. It is an impressive package put together with forensic attention to fine details."
Road testers for the publication offered similar praise for the Mazda6. Maurice Glover commented: "The Mazda6 is a good looking family car with fine styling, decent accommodation and a taut chassis."
"Roomy and capable with grippy handling. It is practical and fun to drive too," added Sue Baker.
The Diesel Car honour comes just two months after the Mazda6 was named ‘Used Family Car of the Year’ in the Auto Express Used Car Honours 2004. Jeremy Thomson, marketing director for Mazda UK, believes the impressive count of awards the Mazda6 has amassed is testament to the car’s combination of practicality and driving pleasure.
"Winning the ‘Best Diesel Family Car’ award from Diesel Car is a great accolade for the Mazda6 and testament to its ability as an all-round driver’s car. Its great handling and clever interior – embodied by the flat folding ‘karakuri’ rear seat system – are very popular features with buyers. The Mazda6 still remains our strongest seller with over 5,000 units sold so far this year," commented Jeremy Thomson.
The Mazda6 diesel is available in three distinctive body styles: a four-door saloon, a five-door hatchback and a stylish five-door estate. The saloon version comes with a 2.0-litre 136ps engine, while the hatchback and estate are available with either 2.0-litre 121ps or 136ps engines. Prices start at £14,700 on the road.
