Judges of the award commended the Mazda RX-8 for its eye-catching looks and innovative design as it triumphed over rivals such as the Nissan 350Z, the Audi TT and the BMW 645Ci.
"The Mazda RX-8 looks absolutely stunning with its low bonnet and sleek lines," explains a contributor to Auto Express magazine in its latest issue.
"Add in the reverse-opening rear doors and no B-pillar and the Mazda RX-8 is a genuine four-seater – rival coupés simply aren’t as practical."
The ride quality of the car also proved to be a key factor in its victory: "The Mazda’s handling will certainly bring a smile. The lightweight rotary engine helps provide accurate responses; the grip is fantastic and the Mazda RX-8 is nimble and fun."
Sales in excess of 6,000 units so far this year proves the Mazda RX-8 has been an instant hit with car buyers as well as awards judges.
Jeremy Thomson, marketing director of Mazda UK, believes the increasing number of awards the Mazda RX-8 is winning reflects public perceptions about the car: "We are delighted to win this much sought-after accolade from Auto Express. Mazda RX-8 has now won 25 international motoring awards, which is testament to the popularity of the unique RENESIS rotary engine and clever use of interior space with the freestyle doors.
"Demand for the car continues to outpace supply and we are on track for a very successful year for the Mazda RX-8, especially if there are more awards on the way," enthused Thomson.
The Mazda RX-8 is available at £20,100 on-the-road for the lively 192ps version, or at £22,100 on-the-road for the powerful 231ps model.
An excellent range of bespoke accessories is also available for motorists to personalise their Mazda starting for as little as £25. True sports car enthusiasts are able to enhance the Mazda RX-8’s already strong road presence with accessories like front and side air dam skirts, perhaps with a rear under deflector.
A choice of 18" polished aluminium alloy wheels with tyre deflectors or mudflaps, and luxurious leather accessories are also available in black and red to give an even more sporting appeal to the cabin.
