The Mazda2 range has been realigned to a three model line-up to increase its appeal to customers. The two new models Mazda2 Antares and Capella, named after two of the brightest stars in the night sky, join the S model and replace TS, TS2 and Sport.
Both new models feature a dark blue theme providing a refreshing change to the 'greyness' of some modern interiors. This includes a unique seat trim that's colour coordinated with the door inserts, gear lever surround, and detailing on the carpet mats and scuff plates. On the outside there are two new exterior colours – Glacier Silver metallic and Deep Navy solid.
Compared to the S, the Mazda2 Antares adds standard air conditioning, electric front windows, CD player and body colour mirrors. The top-of-the-range Mazda2 Capella adds new design 15-inch alloy wheels, electric exterior mirrors and rear windows, a 6 speaker audio system and chrome exhaust tailpipe.
Mazda2, available as a five-door hatchback, offers ‘big car’ quality with the sort of driving dynamics and generous specification levels that represent outstanding value for money. The Mazda2 1.25-litre S model remains priced at £7,995*, representing a customer saving of £770 until 30 June 2004. Customers also benefit from three years' free servicing on all new Mazda2 models.
Mazda2 is noted for its generous interior space and practicality so easy access and comfort are assured. In fact, Mazda2 has been voted winner of the What Car? Comfort Test 2004 in the supermini class. This follows being named supermini and overall winner in 2003.
Scoring 80 per cent, the Mazda2 is commended for its easy front and rear access, well designed boot, clear and logical instruments and the simple to use radio. What Car? also praises the tall gear lever, which falls easy to hand, while seats and seat position also score highly in the test.Mazda2 is available with four engine options of 1.25, 1.4, 1.6 petrol and a 1.4-litre common rail diesel engine. In addition, an Auto Shift Manual transmission (ASM) provides a choice between clutchless manual gearshifts or a full automatic mode and is available on both the 1.4-litre petrol and diesel versions with prices starting from £9,295 (including a customer saving of £705 until 30 June 2004). ASM combines the advantages of an automatic transmission with the flexibility and low fuel consumption of a manual transmission.
