Mazda has taken over 150 applications for Mazda MX-5 on the Motability Contract Hire scheme since it increased its support for the programme last year. Enquiries from Motability customers have been so high that 10 new Mazda dealers have recently become accredited to Motability, bringing the total to 39.

In November 2003, Mazda introduced some attractive customer offers on the Motability Contract Hire scheme, including availability of Mazda MX-5 and Mazda2 on nil advance payment. In response, demand for Mazda MX-5 has been very high with orders flooding into the dealers. In fact, 80 per cent of Mazda Motability applications for January were for the Mazda MX-5 roadster.

David McGonigle, Mazda’s fleet and remarketing director commented: "Motability customers require access to independent transport that offers great driving dynamics, safety, security and economy. By adding Mazda MX-5 to the Motability scheme with nil advance payment Mazda has allowed customers to remain mobile and choose a distinctive vehicle that helps them lead active lifestyles."

The remainder of the January Mazda Motability applications were spread across the Mazda range and included Mazda2, Premacy and MPV. Mazda Motability applications for the three months to the end of January 2004 showed a 435 per cent increase compared to the previous 10 months.

"I am pleased that our support has resulted in a significant increase in orders and demand from the Mazda dealer network to join the Motability programme," David McGonigle added.

"As interest in Mazda product from Motability customers continues to grow we hope that more Mazda dealers will seek accreditation for this important area of the market.

"Mazda has made a commitment to the Motability programme and will strive to give Motability customers highly attractive packages on the exciting Mazda range throughout 2004," promises David McGonigle.

The 39 Mazda dealers already accredited with Motability each have a specialist staff member trained to advise customers on suitable vehicles and, where necessary, adaptations to the controls. In the UK, Motability sales account for some 150,000 transactions a year and registrations for cars in the sports car sector are increasing.
