Mazda Fleet customers waved the chequered flag at the recent launch event for the Mazda RX-8 at Norton Way Mazda in Letchworth. Norton Way Mazda and its business customers celebrated the arrival of the new Mazda RX-8 rotary powered sports coupe with a two-hour endurance race karting night.
Over 20 business customers took part in the highly competitive two-hour race, including guests from BP, CLM Fleet Management, Interleasing, HSBC Vehicle Finance, National Car Rental, Leaseplan UK and Arval PHH.
Chris Cadman from CLM Fleet Management was the first Norton Way Mazda business customer to take delivery of a Mazda RX-8 at the launch event, after ordering the vehicle almost two years ago when it was just a concept car: "Tonight’s excellent competition was rounded off with a superb drive home in the Mazda RX-8. The car was worth the wait and it’s a joy to drive!"
Richard Siney, Operations Manager Norton Way Mazda commented: "Chris is among several of our customers who ordered their Mazda RX-8 up to two years ago. This proves the confidence our customers have in the Mazda product and the RENESIS rotary engine."
Bernadette McElhatton of BP Car Fleet Management also attended Norton Way Mazda’s RX-8 launch, with colleague Sami Rashidi, and was one of the karting winners: "We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and winning on the kart track was the icing on the cake!"
BP is among the first business customers to place orders for the Mazda RX-8 alongside several Mazda6 and Mazda MX-5 sports cars due to be delivered in January.
Norton Way Mazda is Mazda’s biggest UK fleet dealer in terms of volume and has supplied over 2,100 cars between January and November 2003.
David McGonigle, fleet and remarketing director for Mazda Motors UK commented: "Norton Way Mazda is currently one of seven Fleet Specialist Dealers who work closely with our business customers to meet their specific needs. By next year we will have a dozen Fleet Specialist Dealers throughout the Mazda dealer network who will be geared up to achieve even greater fleet volumes."
Richard Siney added: "We have very strong relationships with our business customers. We hold bespoke events like the Mazda RX-8 launch karting night on an annual basis so that we can meet with the fleet managers in a relaxed and informal environment and say a big ‘thank you’ for their continued loyalty. We are already planning our next event!"
Mazda Motors UK took over 1,900 pre-orders for Mazda RX-8 before it was launched in October and has delivered more than 700 since launch.Published 15 December 2003
