Mazda3 Review

The Mazda3 MPS went on sale in February 2007, over three years since the introduction of the Mazda3 to the UK.

With a 0-62 mph time of 6.1 seconds, the 2.3 litre turbo charged Mazda3 MPS is one of the fastest accelerating hot hatches on the market only beaten by the Audi S3 which does the 0-62 mph sprint in 5.7 seconds and the BMW 130i which does it in 6 seconds. The 2.3 litre turbo charged MPS will reach 155 mph and in the 1980’s that would have put the Mazda3 in the super car league and although that was a long time ago those figures are still very impressive from a 5-door family hatchback.

Mazda are hoping to sell a 1,000 Mazda3 MPS' during 2007 in the UK, compared to 14,000 of the standard Mazda3 range.

Mazda have entitled the MPS a “super hatch”, but they are going to have their work cut out, if they are going to draw owners from the usual line up which includes the Honda Civic Type R and the Volkswagen Golf GTi.

The Mazda3 MPS comes in two guises, one is without the Sports Aero Kit (£ 18,995) and the other is with the SAK kit (£19,495) which includes lowered suspension with a little help from Eibach springs, plus you get low drag mirrors and a large rear spoiler.
