Kia Is Fastest Growing Car Brand In The UK
Published: 9th August 2003
- Year-to-date sales up 86% in UK and 55% across Europe
Paul Williams, Managing Director of Kia Motors UK said: "Our year-to-date increase of 86% shows once again how consistently strong Kia is in the marketplace. Maintaining this sales performance in what is a keenly contested market, equal in size to 2002, shows the strength of our product offering across many market segments. In fact Kia is in the position of having an order bank for its Carens and Sorento products."
The top sellers in the UK for Kia are: Rio (32%), Sedona (25%), Carens (15%), Sorento (12%) and Sportage (8%).
Kia achieved total sales across 23 European countries of 77,200 vehicles, a massive 55% above last year’s levels.
"Booming Kia sales across Europe are comfortably out-performing the market," comments Jean-Charles Lievens, Vice-President of Kia Motors Europe. "The continuing record level for our sales further boosts our confidence for Kia’s long-term future. This confidence is well founded, as indicated by the recent upgrading of Kia Motor Corporation’s credit rating to ‘BB+’ by global investment analysts Standard & Poor’s."
Jean-Charles Lievens views Kia’s record run as merely the
beginning of a revolution in Kia’s fortunes in Europe. "While
our current product line-up is selling very well, our model range
covers just 35% of the market segments. Starting with our new small
(A-Segment) car’s world premiere at the Frankfurt Show in
September, we will be introducing a host of new models, to cover
85% of segments by 2005 and make Kia products an attractive purchase
to a much broader customer base."
