Published: 1st December 2002
With the introduction of two new power trains, the Jeep Grand Cherokee range now better satisfies the requirement for leading diesel engine technology and sustained high speed performance demanded by drivers in Europe.
DaimlerChrysler has taken the finest of American 4x4 design and infused it with the best of European diesel engine technology, to produce the new, class-leading 2.7-litre common rail turbo diesel-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee.
At the same time, a new high powered, top-of-the range ‘Overland’ version of the Grand Cherokee is introduced – the most powerful and luxurious Grand Cherokee yet – which uses a new high output 4.7-litre V8 engine to produce a top speed of over 128 mph and a zero to 62 mph time of just 8.3 seconds.
Both the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and the 2.7-litre CRD versions, which are built in Graz, Austria, will go on sale in the UK later this year along with the two existing powertrains, the 4.0-litre automatic and 4.7-litre V8 five speed automatic.
