Popular Jeep® Cherokee Diesel To Take On North America

Published: 1st December 2002
While DaimlerChrysler offers a range of diesel-powered passenger vehicles in Europe, where approximately 35 percent of vehicles are powered by diesel engines, the Jeep Liberty will be the first light-duty sport-utility vehicle with a diesel powertrain to go on sale in the United States and Canada.

Here in the UK the Cherokee 2.8 CRD is set to reach Chrysler and Jeep’s 92-strong dealer network later this month. Powered by a 2776 cc common rail turbo-diesel engine produced by DaimlerChrysler, it will be available with automatic transmission.

The 108 mph car returns 27.4 mpg on the combined cycle and is priced from £20,995. Like all Jeep vehicles, it comes with a three year, 60,000 mile warranty, roadside assistance and seven year, unlimited mileage anti-corrosion guarantee.

Simon Elliott, Managing Director of Chrysler and Jeep in the UK said: "We know how good this car is and the dealers can’t wait to get it in the showrooms. The combination of performance, refinement and Jeep’s unbeatable go-anywhere capability, combined with impressive fuel economy, is a package that’s too good to overlook."

Around the world, the Chrysler Group currently offers diesel powertrain options in the Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Chrysler PT Cruiser and Chrysler Voyager people carriers. In Western Europe, diesel-powered vehicles comprise 56 percent of Chrysler Group's total sales volume.
