The Jaguar XF has the usual array of airbags and safety features such as Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control through engine and brake intervention, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Engine Drag Torque Control.

The rear doors open quite wide at near 90 degrees but there is not a lot of room in the rear because of the position of the transmission tunnel which makes the Jaguar XF more suited to four passengers, or perhaps five with a small child sitting in the middle rear seat.

The controls are logically laid out but you do have to use the touch sensitive telematics screen to access a lot of the cars functions which can be a pain, especially when all you want to do is switch on or off a function such as the heated steering wheel or change the radio frequency although there is voice activation short cuts for some of these functions.

The pop up gear change control is intuitive and so is the electronic parking brake which is automatically released as Drive is selected, the parking brake can also be engaged and disengaged manually should the need arise.

Safety and Security

The Jaguar XF has the usual array of airbags and safety features such as Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Traction Control through engine and brake intervention, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Cornering Brake Control (CBC) and Engine Drag Torque Control.

A two-stage Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system similar to that featured on the Jaguar XK is standard. It combines the normal on-off switchable DSC function, which reacts as soon as it detects slip, with Trac DSC, which allows for more fun before intervening, which in turn offers a more engaging driving experience. It also allows a degree of wheel overspin on deep soft surfaces, which is essential for running with snow chains. The system defaults to normal 'DSC on' with each ignition-on sequence.

Jaguar has not put the XF forward for testing by Euro NCAP, which is not uncommon as it is an expensive process - so there is not an NCAP star rating.

Comfort and Refinement

There are the usual refinements that you would expect to see on a car of this class such as auto on headlights, rain sensitive windscreen wipers, keyless entry and an engine starting button.

We tested the Jaguar XF Portfolio model which is equipped with a finer detail interior with contrasting stitching on leather trim, a suede cloth headlining and deep-pile carpet mats with embroidered logos.

Bi Xenon headlamps with integrated cornering lamps, headlamp washers and automatic levelling but they are not adaptive, i.e. they do not track the path of the car through the corners.
