Hyundai Getz
New Dynamic Diesel
Most significant is the all new four-cylinder DOHC 1.5 litre CRTD turbocharged diesel engine that is mated to a new five-speed manual transmission with revised shift. This new engine is available in two power options: 88 PS (87bhp) and 110 PS (109bhp), each of which is capable of returning more than 60 mpg on the official Combined Cycle.
The flexible 110PS engine, which boasts 173 lbs ft torque between 1,900-2,750 rpm, enables the Getz to cover the 0-60 mph sprint in a spirited 11.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph. Yet it is still capable of returning up to 50 mpg around town (Urban Cycle) and nearly 70 mpg on the open road (68.9 mpg Extra Urban Cycle).
Little wonder then that the new 110 PS diesel unit is found in the new range-topping 1.5 CRTD CDX+ model, a car that adds uncompromised sports style to the new Getz line-up. It has been styled to suit its dynamic ability with the addition of a rear spoiler with integral brake light, front and rear mudflaps, leather trim for the steering wheel and gearshift and a metal grain effect finish centre console.
The new four-cylinder diesel unit replaces the previous 1.5 litre three-cylinder unit. And by offering the two power variants, 88 PS and 110 PS, Hyundai has widened the choice for the increasing number of car buyers now opting for diesel.
In GSI trim with manual transmission, the five-door 88 PS diesel-powered Getz is capable of covering a fuel-sipping 63 mpg on the Combined Cycle. Both diesel variants are available with manual transmission only.
An additional benefit of the 88 PS diesel unit is lower road fund licence fees. At just 118 g/km it qualifies for Band B, which costs £85 for 12 months. The 110 PS variant, meanwhile, sits in Band C and costs £115 for 12 months.
New 1.4 Petrol Unit
A new 1.4 litre petrol engine, to replace the previous 1.3 unit, also marks a step forward in terms of technology, further improving environmental efficiency (all the new Getz engines comply with Euro IV regulations). The four valves per cylinder unit, complete with continuous variable valve timing (CVVT), delivers 97 PS (96bhp) and returns up to 47 mpg on the official Combined Cycle with five speed manual transmission.
With the 1.4 litre engine customers can opt for an advanced four-speed automatic transmission that has been developed specifically for the new Getz. High top gear ratios reduce fuel consumption when cruising, while the intelligent transmission constantly monitors engine speeds and driver demands and adapts itself to suit individual driving styles.
