Honda (UK) is supporting the UN-backed initiative, Climate Change Now - a tour of 17 European cities which sets off from London today (Thursday) and returns on 21 October.
Aiming to convert 1 million European households to renewable energy, the tour will be completed in two Civic IMAs, saving nearly one tonne of CO2 and 300 litres of fuel over the 16,000 km journey.
Honda launches its new Civic Hybrid (IMA) 4-dr saloon in January 2006 - the latest generation hybrid from Honda to offer drivers an environmentally friendly alternative to standard petrol or diesel cars without compromising on performance.
At 115 ps, the new Civic Hybrid has the power output of a 1.8 engine but the fuel economy of a 1 litre engine. CO2 emissions are 109 g/km compared to the national UK average of 171 g/km. Comparatively, over 100,000 miles a driver would save nearly 10 tonnes of carbon dioxide. The combined fuel economy is 61.4 mpg against an average of around 44 mpg per gallon (estimated). Based on £1 a litre for unleaded, a driver would save nearly £3,000 (£2,928) over a 100,000 mile period by switching from an average car to Civic Hybrid (IMA).
