The Second-Generation 2.0 Litre Engine

PSA Peugeot Citroën and Ford are also introducing a second-generation 2.0 litre engine known respectively as the HDi 2.0 litre and the Duratorq TDCi 2.0 litre.

The new powerplant represents the latest development in the 2.0-litre HDi family, which has equipped PSA Peugeot Citroën’s mid- and upper-range cars since 1998. It benefits from the feedback gained from a family of highly successful engines used in more than three million Peugeot and Citroën cars.

The project team wanted to design a high-quality engine, in particular with significantly enhanced drivability compared with the previous generation, which had already set the market standard. These goals were met without increasing fuel consumption, which remains very low.

In terms of environmental protection, the new engine will be available at launch with a Euro IV compliant version with the FAP particulate filter.

The engine’s new-generation common rail direct injection system is supplied by Siemens. It manages up to six different injections and delivers an injection pressure of 1,600 bar.

As a result, the new 2.0 litre HDi/Duratorq TDCi engine will give users a drivability that will immediately establish it as a market benchmark. At 136 bhp (100 kW), it offers 25% more power than its predecessor, while fuel consumption remains stable at a very low level. However, the designers focused more on torque than on power, providing a 36% increase to enhance drivability and flexibility.

The engines will be manufactured at PSA Peugeot Citroën’s Trémery plant in the Lorraine region of eastern France. €159 million was spent to adapt the plant’s existing production line to handle the new engines, while improving workstation ergonomics.
