New Low-Cost Diesel For Stilo Range

Published: 14th June 2002
Fiat Stilo

Stilo, Fiat Auto’s new mid-size hatchback, has just become available with an economical 80 bhp version of the company’s widely acclaimed common rail direct injection turbodiesel engine. This 1.9 litre JTD unit can now be ordered on the entry-level 5-door Active version. A 115 bhp JTD engine has been available on both 3 and 5-door versions since Stilo was introduced here earlier this year.

Fiat Auto’s common rail diesel engines provide both reliability and refinement along with significantly improved performance, a reduction in combustion noise, and reduced fuel consumption and exhaust emissions compared with conventional diesel engines.

In this economy state of tune the 1.9 JTD engine delivers 80 bhp at 4000 rpm, and a substantial 144 lb.ft of torque at just 1500 rpm – characteristics which make the vehicle particularly flexible and easy to drive. Top speed is 105 mph, with acceleration from 0-62 mph in 13.3 seconds. Fuel consumption is low, and official figures show that the Stilo JTD achieves 51.4 mpg over a combined cycle. CO2 emissions are 146 g/km.

Closely related to the 115 bhp 1.9 JTD engine already available in the range, the 80 bhp version differs in that it does not have an intercooler and is fitted with a fixed geometry turbine instead of a variable geometry unit. Both engines comply with Euro 3 exhaust emissions standards.

The price of the 1.9 JTD 80 Active 5-door is as follows:

Basic Price
£9936.17
VAT
£1738.83
Total
£11,675.00
OTR Changes
£160.00
Total OTR
£11,835.00

In addition, all Stilo versions benefit from Fiat Auto’s current customer offer of 0% finance over 3 years with a 40% deposit. The Stilo range now starts at £9995 (OTR).

All Fiat cars come with a comprehensive three-year warranty and roadside service package, made up of a two-year unlimited mileage manufacturer warranty, a third year dealer warranty with a mileage limit of 60,000 from the date of first registration, and three years’ Fiat AA Assurance cover, consisting of Roadside Assistance, Home Start, Relay, Relay Plus and European cover.
