Fiat Commercial Vehicles (UK) has just announced that it is to be the new title sponsor for this summer’s FIM British Speedway Grand Prix.
The event, which is the third round of the world championship, is set to attract over 40,000 fans to the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on 14 June, and will be officially known as the FIM Fiat Vans British Speedway Grand Prix. The title sponsorship is in addition to Fiat Commercial Vehicles’ elite sponsorship of the nine round world championship series.
Commenting on the deal, Paul Godden, brand manager, Fiat Commercial Vehicles says: “This series is a great sporting spectacle for Fiat Commercial Vehicles to be associated with. Last year we realised the unique brand-building benefits of using the SGP Series as a vehicle to increase awareness of Fiat Commercial Vehicles internationally. This move is an extension of that association.
“Our portfolio of brands, which includes Ducato, Doblò Cargo, Scudo and Punto Van, fits perfectly with the SGP title sponsorship package, as we can communicate our brands through a variety of means, including unique signage on all 24 bike fronts, additional track signage, and logos on media backdrops.
“In addition, the hospitality and first class entertainment of this exciting event is a great way for us to maintain, establish and enhance our relationships with our customers, staff, and trade press.”
In the period January-April 2003, Fiat Commercial Vehicles sales have increased by over 22% compared to last year, against a market which has only increased by 15% in the same period. The key factor in this significant growth is the success of the Fiat Doblò Cargo, whose volume has increased by 37%. However, also showing significant gains are the Fiat Ducato and Scudo model ranges, with growth of 19% and 22% respectively.Published 4 June 2003
